I own two Greenworks chainsaws and love them
Please note, "bare tool" means that you will have to buy the battery and charger separately. I own two Greenworks chainsaws. The lithium batteries hold a good charge. My husband and I use them to saw up branches and logs on our lot up north. If you are going to do a lot of work then you might want to buy an extra battery so you always have one charging and one ready to go. I've had fewer problems with the Greenworks cordless chainsaws than with the regular gas powered models.

Power and Performance
A chainsaw is something I need occasionally, but not too often. Usually, the need comes from a storm that knocks down a tree limb or, under rare circumstances, an entire tree. At a family property on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, one of those storms brought down part of a tree. I had owned a gas-powered chain saw but gave it to a neighbor when my family relocated, so I decided to purchase this cordless chainsaw.

My daughters and I packed up the chainsaw and the 80 volt battery from our Greenworks snow thrower, departed for the family property, and put the chainsaw to the test this past weekend. The performance was truly impressive, with plenty of power available. The 2 amp-hour 80 Volt battery lasted almost a half hour, which may be an issue for extended use, but only requires about that long to recharge. Taking a break while the battery recharged worked nicely for us.

Long ago, my grandfather taught me "let the tool do the work" and I was giving the same advice to my daughters as they cut some of the smaller diameter branches. Before long, we completed the final cut, and they were amazed by the chainsaw's power combined with the ease of use. And I was pleased to have made a great purchase decision.

We burn mesquite wood that we harvest from trees we are clearing from our pastures. This chainsaw makes these jobs much easier.

GreenWorks Pro 18 inch chainsaw
The first day I got my chainsaw I cut four 6" diameter fence posts and eight 2" diameter fence tighteners out of old hedge trees and only reduced the battery capacity by one third. So much more convenient than messing with gas, oil and hard starting; just grab and go and cut.

Great saw with one issue chain oil leaks out the bottom
I just bought this saw about a month ago and used it for the first time 2 weeks ago. The saw performs great. It cut through everything I tried to. The only issue is the chain oil leaks out of the bottom of the saw and leaves puddles of oil where ever it stays. Other than this issue the saw is great. I would also recommend a second battery if you are going to be using the saw for a while so you can charge one while using the other one.

How much for battery/charger for 18 in chainsaw? Does a chain come with the "basic tool"?

The chain is included with this saw.
Does it matter whether you purchase the 2Ah or 4 Ah battery for this chainsaw?
A shopper on Jul 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Depends on duration of usage. Volts = power; Amp hours = runtime. 4 Ah will have approximately twice the runtime so depends how long you need to utilize the saw between charges.
Where do I get the battery & charger?
Jerry on Apr 22, 2016
If you wanted this saw and you don't already have another tool with the right battery and charger then I would recommend buying a complete tool package as it is more cost effective.
The reconditioned battery alone is $120.,default,pd.html?start=56&cgid=greenworks&srule=price-high-to-low
The charger is another $80,default,pd.html?start=77&cgid=greenworks&srule=price-high-to-low
The complete package isn't currently available on CPO Outlet but is available on Amazon for $300
I bought the bare tool as I already had the snow thrower and the string trimmer as complete tool packages so I had 2 batteries and 2 chargers already. I actually bought the string trimmer as a package in part to get a second battery as the trimmer and snow blower wouldn't likely be used in the same day anyway.
Does it have a pull cord?
A shopper on Nov 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No....this requires a battery that is started by a switch.
What is involved in "servicing" this chainsaw....just chain sharpening or chain replacement as needed? Easy to do?
Hillbonnie (vs. Hillbilly) on May 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, since this is a cordless unit. The only replaceable part would be the chainsaw blade, which only requires adjustment at the chain tensioner
